Invercargill Overview

The home-base of the ABL team, the Invercargill operation is the largest construction firm in the city, and continues to have a strong loyal core of trades people and management staff.

Local and out-of-town clients and consultants have total confidence in ABL because of its in depth knowledge of regional conditions affecting construction (such as weather), and of its long history of close working relationships across the community and Southland.

That regional understanding plus expertise with the most advanced building techniques and materials, has given ABL Invercargill the edge on several major high-profile construction projects including:

• Stadium Southland
  The seven-month fast-track project called for the largest full-span scaffolding in the country, resulting in unencumbered space using 37 m clear-span trusses and sound-insulated MDF ceilings. Won the 2001 Regional Master Builders Association Commercial Section award
• Invercargill Police Station
  Two blocks were added to the station, and the existing building was totally refurbished inside and out – while the police station maintained full operation – necessitating close communication and co-operation with police during the entire 12-month project. Composite alloy and polyethylene panels pre-finished in NZ Police blue, provided innovative exterior cladding.
• Milford Sound Visitors Centre
  Construction of two new double leveled wings at either end of the existing Milford Sound Visitors Centre. The remote location and extreme weather conditions of the site required immense co-ordination logistically to ensure that materials and manpower were on site as and when required.
• Southern Cross Hospital - New Operating Theatres
  The constuction and full intergration of new operating theatres and ancillary areas whilst maintaining the Hospitals existing operations.
• Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter - New X Furnace Foundations
  The construction of a 12m x 8m x4.2m deep insitu concrete foundation in a 5 week timeframe and under extreme on site conditions.
• Southland Museum ‘Pyramid’
  The largest in the southern hemisphere.
