Chinese Gardens
ABL were awarded this project at early design stage and worked with the client and consultants throughout. The project consisted of a central pond constructed with and outer wall with courtyards, pathways, bridges, rock hills, planted areas and meeting rooms constructed over and on the edges of the pond.
Stage 1 was the creation of the pond and impervious pond liner. Stage 2 was the foundations for the above ground work, Stage 3 the above ground structures and Stage 4 the Pai Lau (entrance gate) and courtyard. All the timber above ground structures were manufactured in Shanghai, erected, then dismantled after checking by ABL, then transported to Dunedin and assembled on site by Chinese artisans under supervision by ABL and the consultants.
